Leveling in the Pet Trainer job is fairly easy. Like the other professions, there is a minigame associated with the job that provides you with experience. The Pet Trainer minigame is the shortest minigame in the game, so leveling goes very fast. With your chosen pet following you, click on the Tricks (pawprint) button beside its picture on the pet house. Pick a trick to ask your pet to perform. This will start the Pet Trainer minigame. The rules are pretty simple: a picture will be drawn on the screen, and when the game says “Draw!”, you trace the image with the mouse exactly as it was shown. You’ll then receive a rating. The more closely and faster you trace the picture, the higher your rating, and the more points your pet will earn toward that skill. This will also give you points toward leveling the Pet Trainer job. At first, you’ll only have one skill in which to train your pet. For every 5 levels you earn in the Pet Trainer job, you get a new trick or two to teach, as follows:

• Speak – Level 1
• Sit Up (Dogs only) – Level 5
• Jump (Cats only) – Level 5
• Roll Over (Dogs only) – Level 10
• Box (Cats only) – Level 10
• Peek-a-boo (Dogs only) – Level 10
• Handstand – Level 15
• Spin (Cats only) – Level 15
• Play Dead (Dogs only) – Level 20
• Dance – Level 20

So what’s the point of all this training? Well, if you enjoy digital pets, this is yet another example. You can feed and groom your pet, as well as teach it the tricks you’ve learned. Ask the pet to do the tricks to keep its fun level up. The biggest benefit to having a pet, however, comes at level 20. If you have a happy pet following you, they will increase your running speed, but only if you have reached level 20 in the Pet Training job. Since there are several quests which rely on running between locations in a short time span, this is a huge benefit.

Tutorial Text: Click the My Pets icon in your game dock to access your pets. This is where you select your pet. Click on a pet to summon it. Click the About My Pet button to see general information about your pet. Click here (on the pen button next to its current name) to name your pet. Select a name from the options and then click the checkmark button to accept it. The equip screen lets you equip different items onto your pet. Click on an item to have your pet wear it. This is the pet house. Move your mouse over the pet house then click on the yellow X that appears in the corner. This dismisses your pet and ends this part of the tutorial.

Tutorial text: A dirty pet is an unhappy pet. This screen lets you equip items for grooming. We’ve already selected the first slot for you. Click on the shampoo to continue. Select some conditioner. Conditioner is optional, but using it will make your pet happier and may have other benefits depending on the conditioner you use. Click on the conditioner to continue. Shampoo and conditioner are used up when you groom your pet. You can also choose a brush to use. The brush is not used up. Click on the brush to continue. Now that you’ve equipped all the items you need, click the Clean button to begin grooming your pet. Your pet will only hold still for a minute, so start scrubbing!When you’re done, we’ll move you to feeding. (If you scroll the mouse over the pet, the cursor will change to a brush. Click on the pet and shake the mouse around over the pet to clean it. You’ll have about 23 seconds.) Pets also need to be fed to be happy. Like your grooming brush, you’ll keep the bowl when you’re done feeding your pet. Click the bowl to continue. Click on the food to fill the slot and continue. Your pet doesn’t require vitamins, but they will make your pet happier and may have other benefits, depending on the vitamins. Click the vitamins to continue. Grooming, feeding, and playing with your pet will keep it happy. When you have the My Pets screen open, you can click on your pet to pet it. When you’re a level 20 pet trainer and you’ve finished all the pet trainer quests, your happy pets will increase your running speed when they run alongside you! Now just click Feed to start feeding your pet and end this part of the tutorial.

Tutorial text: You and your pet will only level up from tricks when you’re in the pet trainer job. The higher level pet trainer you are, the faster you’ll be able to teach your pet tricks. Click the tricks button on the pet house to see your pet’s tricks and continue. You unlock more tricks as you level your pet trainer job. Here is where you select the trick you’d like your pet to perform. When you click one of the tricks, a brief tutorial will walk you through the steps. Click on the trick to continue. When you’re ready to begin your trick, click on the minigame button. After you’re done performing your trick, speak with your trainer to end this tutorial.
Pet Gesture Game, Pet Trick Gestures – Teach your pet to do a trick by tracing the shape drawn on teh screen with your mouse. The better and quicker you trace the shape, the better your pet will do the trick! (Hint: wait until the guide is drawn and the screen says ‘Draw!’ before beginning to draw the shape.)

The game suggests that you be level 10 in your chosen combat skill before attempting this area, but if you are careful about not taking on too many enemies at once, you can make it through anytime between levels 5 and 10.

Goals for this area:

• Defeat the Spider Queen
• Don’t get knocked out 5 times
• Bonus: Defeat the 3 Webspinner Princesses (appear after you defeat the Spider Queen)

Enemies found in this area:

• Spiderlings – these come in gold and purple and have around 100 hp.
• Webspinners – these come in purple and have around 400 hp.
• Large Webspinners – there is only one of these, which guards a path that leads deeper into the dungeon. Knock it out to destroy the web blocking your path. It has around 500 hp.
• Venomous Lurkers – these are gold and have around 500 hp.
• Spider Eggs – these are white and are located in nests throughout the level as well as being laid by the Spider Queen during your battle with her.  They have around 50 hp.
• Spider Queen, Arachnia – she is large and purple, and has around 1500 hp.
• Webspinner Princesses – these are miniature versions of the Spider Queen.  They are only visible after the Spider Queen has been defeated, and are scattered throughout the level. They have around 700 hp.

Strategies:

• The Spider Eggs found in this area will hatch and become Spiderlings if you get too close to them. Take them out with a long-range move, such as Rock Toss for Brawlers, Shuriken Toss for Ninjas, etc., before they have a chance to hatch.
• The larger spiders will root you to the ground and Venomous Lurkers will spray you with poison from afar.  Try to keep them nearby by using Unmoving Orbs.
• Be careful with spiders sitting up on ledges. You will need to walk behind the spider, toward the steep hills, in order to find a scalable path.
• Just before you reach the area with the Spider Queen, there is a large group of spiders containing 3 of the larger spiders, a few Spiderlings, and some Spider Eggs.  Try to take out the eggs from as far back as possible before attempting to strike the others.  Remember, many of the long-distance attacks hit multiple targets at once, so stay far back and they likely won’t land on the bigger spiders.  Use stuns, multiple target attacks, and healing and energy potions as necessary to stay alive here.
• When you get to the area where the Spider Queen lives, take out the large spider off to the side first, so she doesn’t call for backup while you’re fighting her.

Fighting the Boss:

• The Spider Queen will do three things: attack you from a distance with webs to root you in place and venom to damage you, attack you up close, and drop Spider Eggs which hatch into Spiderlings to help her attack you.  Try to keep as close to her as possible so that she catches the full brunt of your attacks.  Use multiple target attacks to keep the Spiderlings at bay.  Lastly, have a few potions ready.  You will definitely need them between levels 5-10.

Quests:

• Chugawugs are Not Spider Food – Get this quest from Snorg. In order to complete this quest, attack the cocooned Chugawug in the middle part of the dungeon.
• Corrupted Spiders – Get this quest from Spinnerette near the dungeon entrance.  The objective is simply to defeat the Spider Queen at the end of the dungeon.
• The Strongest Net – Get this quest from Lazi on the hilltop near the dungeon entrance.  Collect 12 strands of spider silk to complete this quest.  Spiders carrying silk will glow, and you’ll automatically collect the silk upon knocking them out.
